Position: Chairman

Information: Mike says: "I retired from a business career in the IT industry nearly 4 years ago and am now pursuing a second career in the voluntary sector. As Chair of Voluntary Action my role is to work with the rest of the trustees, our staff and volunteers to offer services to voluntary sector organisations in our area which help them become more effective in their own work of serving the community. I work closely with other trustees in Voluntary Impact Bucks which is a consortium of organisations across the County who provide similar services to those offered by Voluntary Action."

Information: John says : "When I took early retirement from a career in consumer electronics in the UK and Australia, Voluntary Action helped me get started working in the voluntary sector. Since then I trained as an advisor at the CAB and became a volunteer and Secretary at Careers Springboard. Convinced of the contribution that volunteers can make to the community I recently joined the board of Voluntary Action to support them in their valuable work. "

Information: Tricia says: I'm a retired pharmacist / marketing manager and am enjoying using my previous experience to help with business planning and fund-raising for VOLUNTARY ACTION. This work has helped me to acquire new skills and to find out how the voluntary and statutory sector can work together. I'm also involved with community and social justice issues by chairing my church's Social Concern Committee. (St James GX). And I'm a mum with a teenage daughter.

Name: Rachael Block

Information: Rachael says: "I am a Human Resources Consultant advising both not-for-profit and commercial organisations. As the HR specialist on the Voluntary Action Board I chair the HR Committee and draw upon my experience to support the organisation in developing good HR practice. I have learnt a lot about the voluntary sector and gained a great deal from working with colleagues on the Board to help develop strategy and partnerships with other voluntary agencies."

Information: Alan says: "I am retired from a career in broadcasting and telecommunications (BBC and Hughes Network Systems), undertaking business, project and operations management. I have used my previous experiences and skills to become a 'Business Advisor' for Young Enterprise in the Chiltern and Aylesbury Districts. The Young Enterprise introduction was via VOLUNTARY ACTION. I joined the board of Voluntary Action, where I chair the Steering Group for 'Volunteer Workout' - an exciting project starting in Buckinghamshire to establish an Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) programme".

Name: Barry Clarke, OBE
Position:

Information: Barry’s career has embraced private, public and voluntary sectors. Much of this time has been spent building bridges between the three. Barry was Chair of the International Save the Children Alliance from 2002 – 2008 and was previously Chair of Save the Children UK. He was awarded an OBE in 1999 for his services to charity. He is a marketing and sustainability specialist with the research and consulting firm Change~Agency and was previously chairman of Proximity London, the UK’s leading integrated communications agency after a 40 year career in marketing and communications. Barry is a director of Save the Children Romania, a pro bono advisor to addiction treatment charity Addaction and a governor of John Hampden Grammar School.

Name: Denise Hudson

Information: I am currently working for a Financial Services company in the local area and I also have involvement in a few other charities within South Bucks, mainly public speaking for Contact The Elderly to raise awareness, in addition to running a local group. I thoroughly enjoy my volunteering roles and it is a very rewarding experience, I also enjoy the ability to arrange things around my normal work and my young son who has also developed a keen interest at a young age. I hope to bring a young/fresh outlook to Voluntary Action in my role as Trustee and assist the group in its growth within the South Bucks region and further support our local charities in years to come.

Position: Chief Officer, Partnerships Manager

Information: Diane takes a strategic role within the Voluntary and Community Sector in Chiltern and S Bucks, engaging in representation and partnership work, as well as co-ordinating the activities of VOLUNTARY ACTION and supporting the board in the development of the organisation. Diane says "Voluntary Action is all about people, and all about involvement; people making a difference to the quality of their lives and that of others by getting involved in community life and issues, making our world a better place for all of us"

Information: Joy manages the Volunteer Centre for Chiltern and South Bucks. Joy says “When looking for volunteers it's helpful to keep an open mind, investigate new sources and new target groups. Even one good volunteer can make a huge difference to your organisation. When you find that person, respond quickly and treat them well!”
